So here I am still at sister moon's and having a wonderful time. The weather has been absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! Translated that means no humidity. I think I should post some pics. I will eventually.

I think the knee is a lot better - the blackness is nearing the toe area so maybe it is making a fond farewell.

just a short update

this post is written by the injured doodles even though it is coming from sister moons computer. Just say that I am way too lazy to change the settings.

OK from the left knee cap down I am a ugly mess. It is blue black yellow swollen to icky size and not a damn thing I can do about it but stay off of it. NOT happening!!!

So today is a day of R & R and re-group to see if we can get some of the swelling down. Drs say the same thing "well stay off of it". For those of you that know me it ain't that easy. And by the way for the many that think there was a Corona involved I hate to disappoint you - no Coronas till after.

Time for the leg to be elevated...later - but stay tuna'd..........................

What's a trip with my sister without a minor injury

Now I know you were not expecting this but I'm a gonna give it to ya anyway.

While on the way out the door on our way to the desert.....I tripped, fell on my knees, went forward hit me little head but being that it is a hard head didn't knock me out but did give me quite a bump on the noggin. So my sweet brother-in-law went got me an ice pack from the freezer and a towel to wrap my knee. Got in the car and off to the desert we went. No bruises or broken appendages are going to stop us....think that's our family motto now that I think of it.

About half way into our trip which should be about three hours the knee began to get quite large and shiny. Hmmmmm I say this is not a good sign....seems like a trip to urgent care may be in order.

Get to Mary's house, deposit our luggage and park my butt on the couch and applied more ice in an elevated position. I was pleased to see that on my insurance card was the all popular "ask an RN. Yeah!!!! Called that and talked to the sweetest lady and she told me I was doing the all the right things, comes from experience you see, and that I could wait and go to urgent care in the a.m.

That we did we were there at eight a.m. being the first little customer patient of the day. Long story short, nothing is broken, but bruised from the knee cap down. It is not a pretty site let me tell ya.

Everyone knows how much I love my sister, but she was absolutely a terrific attendant. She went and got dinner for us, found me some ibuprofen and has driven me around since the tumble. I know I would do the same for her but let me tell ya my seester is the best.

So two more weeks of the trip, stay tuna'd................

a short but sweet visit with my dear friend Lyn in Dallas and off to LA on Wednesday early a.m.
went from a 4 Corona day in Dallas, thanks tie, to a 1 Corona day in Los Angeles.

Sister picked me up at LAX after an uneventful flite, praise the lord, we motored over to see niece at her lawyer office for a short visit prior to sister doing her stint at the Getty. If you ever get to Los Angeles the Getty Center is a must. I have spent so much time there that I could probably be a docent and run a tour. However my friends at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota would be sad since I docent there. That's what Deb does at the Getty a Docent and a damned good one I might add.

Ok here it is thursday a.m. and I am trying to fill friends in on the goings on of the two loonies. People refer to as that in an endearing way.

OK we are off to the dessert, Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs this afternoon. Now that could also be a 4 Corona Day. Spending the weekend there with Mary, sister, niece and me-self. That could be a bit of an advnture depending on which way the wind is blowing.

And ya know this group has a cooking blog and we have yet to cook a meal. Hey I'll take pics of the food we eat alomg the way.

It is frickin HOT in Dallas..........holy crap!!! Landed yesterday we immediately came home to my friend Lyn's and got in the pool. 3 p.m. it was 102 degrees and this is unusual for them - but then weather seems to be unusual everywhere ;(.
We didn't do a lot cause I was a bit tired and we lounged.

Today we are going to lunch and some good quality shopping is on the list. Also doing some decorating advice for my friend because she is in the process of re-doing her kitchen. So some paint shopping will be squeezed in there sometime.
Tonite Lyn and I are toddling off to see a local triple A ball team the "Frisco Rough Riders". who are playing the Arkansas somebodies. I love Triple A ball and this should be fun.

I leave Wednesday early a.m. to fly off to LA and see me family.....hee haw!!!

This is for my long awaited trip to visit seester, brother-in-law, their “Buddy”, my niece, her hunky husband, their puppies and my dad’s wife. And then throw in asundry other folk along the way. With temperatures soaring Wednesday, Fontaine placed two trays of cookie dough on the dashboard, shut the doors and retreated inside to her air-conditioned office.
"My husband wanted me to run some errands this morning," said Fontaine, who works at Baldwin and Clarke Corporate Finance. "I said, 'I can't. I'm baking cookies.'"
Fontaine first tested her dashboard oven three years ago. She said anyone can do it; the only requirement is for the outside temperature to be at least 95 degrees, so it will rise to about 200 degrees in the car. Temperatures in the area reached the mid- to upper 90s on Wednesday.
"Mrs. Fields has nothing on Sandi," co-worker Brian Champigny said of the cookie company.
Though Thursday was supposed to be cooler, Fontaine said she'll still enjoy the benefits of her culinary effort.
"When you open the door to that car," she said, "it's like, oh, my God. It's a wonderful smell."

That was the headline in my Sunday financial section of my local newspaper.
I gotta ask ya why for god's sake?

I know some people have tap water that may not as good as what I may have. Our water is quite good in fact. No overwhelming smell of chlorine when you turn on the tap, and when ice cubes melt there are no fuzzies or whatever in the bottom of the glass. Our water tested very well at a lab. Guess that means no gremlins or anything else. So I don't need designer ice cubes thank God!!!

Purina Diet
I used to have a Labrador retriever & was buying a large bag of Purina at Wal-Mart, waiting in the check-out line. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time. But, I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry, as the food is nutritionally complete. So, I was going to try it again.I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, especially a tall heavy man behind her. Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned. I told her no; I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.The tall guy nearly had to stagger out of the store, oxygen-depleted from laughter. I paid for the food and left a lot of smiles behind me.

Well let me tell you I have been putting up with 92 - 94 with 101% humidity for some 20 + years. And where were y'all when we have been melting here in the good olde "blue tarp state"!!! See for us it's normal whatever normal might be.
I know we don't have to live here right?!! But since the real estate market went in the toilet there is nary a buyer to be seen. We are not the only ones hurt by this real estate market suicidal plunge, as it is sparadic acrossed the country. Why did Alan Greenspan have to retire now...........Ben Bernanke please call Mr Greenspan and ask him what to do - cause I'm not too sure about you.

I refuse................

There is so much crap going on in this world of ours right now. I told my sis yesterday I refuse to rant about Bush and his merry band of thieves. It is very difficult but I think I can pull it off.Don't rant it makes wrinkles! Not saying don't care, or stop writing letters - I haven't.

We need to find some good things in this world. One the shuttle landed safely thank god! We knew they were coming cause we heard the boom overhead. That was cool!

Customer Service

As a business owner in my other life I must say I was and still am a fanatic on customer service. I would require our employees, no matter how busy they were, to acknowledge everyone that walks thru the door with a greeting of some kind "good morning" not an attack just a recognition. Now mind you a few would go un-noticed but not often. Some employees would grumble that it was silly, but to me it is/was very important and I made sure it was done.

I frequent the Marshall's in my town and have always had great customer service experience in that particular store. The manager Bev is terrific, as she knows how to display product and passes that on to her staff. Bev's staff is equally knowledgeable and helpful. So to say shopping in that Marshall's always is a pleasant experience.

I happened to be in there the other day and I overheard a conversation of the manager and what sounded like a district manager giving suggestions but most of all praising the store for product placement. Well I thought this is a good chance to tell someone how great this store really was. I had expressed my feelings to the manager before but telling a corporate person usually is well thought of. I did speak to the gentleman and he was genuinely pleased of my comments. He said something interesting though, that people are quick to call corporate when there happens to be a problem but rarely call when they are happy and satisfied. He said"when you call the store gets points and goes in their file". "Cool" I say give me the 800# please.

And I agree we do complain and are quick to criticize. I am going to make a habit of complimenting staff when necessary. If that means calling or emailing the company or the store then I will make a point to do that.....and I hope y'all with think about doing it as well.

Dear Tom and Ray: the NPR car talk dudes

These guys are pretty funny...... actually they are goofy. And a lot of the show is them ribbing each other cause they are brothers and they can do that. But Tom & Ray are very knowledgeable in the auto repair biz. They appear on my local NPR station at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. While I am spiffing up around the house and doing me chores I listen to NPR the Car Talk Guys But this call in nearly put me away - reading it does not do it justice cause it's one a those ya had to have been there. Southeastern gecko found in Kansas next we are gonna send them some alligators

There's a new creature crawling around Kansas.
Herpetologists have confirmed that the Mediterranean gecko is taking up residence in the state, spreading north from the southeast United States over the past decade.
"We knew it got as far as Norman, Oklahoma, in the early 1990s," said Joe Collins, University of Kansas herpetologist. "Well, it's here."And one is now on display at the Prairie Park Nature Center in Lawrence, feeding on crickets."Ours has been hiding under rocks in its cage since we got him," said Marty Birrell, the center's director. "They are nocturnal, so we don't usually see them in the daytime."Collins said there were sightings late last year in Johnson County. He was asked in May about the gecko after someone caught the lizard, which Collins had previously seen and caught in Texas and Florida.
Just to make sure it was a gecko, Collins took a picture of the lizard and sent it to Walter Meshaka Jr., the state herpetologist for Pennsylvania and a renowned expert on geckos.
There is a renowned expert on geckos??? Meshaka confirmed it was a Mediterranean gecko.

In late June, some of Collins' students conducted a search for the geckos at the Johnson County location and found them on and around manufacturing and warehouse buildings. They found dozens and caught a few, one of which was given to the nature center.
The geckos were around the buildings because the night security lights were attracting insects. They use their sticky, padded feet to climb the walls.
"They'd go up and hang around the lights and eat dinner," Collins said. "It's sort of a smorgasbord for geckos." The geckos are generally about 4 inches long and can blend in with their surroundings. Common in southern Europe and northern Africa, geckos probably arrived in Florida by way of ships, then migrated or hitched rides aboard vehicles to other states, Collins said. "I didn't think they would make it this far north because it's too cold," Collins said. "Apparently, the little fellows learned how to live outside during the summer and run inside during the winter and live off whatever spiders and cockroaches they can find in buildings."
Geckos are friendly creatures and make good pets, Collins said.
"They are fairly easy animals to keep, and that's probably why they naturalize to a lot of different areas," she said.
The Mediterranean gecko is the third "alien" gecko to migrate to Kansas, Collins said. The other two are the Italian wall lizard and western green lacerta, both found around Topeka. The wall lizard also can be found in Lawrence, he said.
