The life of an RV'er

I have written more than once about our life in our RV.  It can be quite rewarding .  Think about it.  Your retired without a care in the world traveling around the USA and Canada meeting up with old friends and making new ones.  Aaaaahhhh there's the tiny problem.  Well not a problem really just a difficulty.  Making new friends and then moving on to another area.  But then we do have a bit of Gypsy in our soul.

As we have traveled in our RV we have visited almost every state in the Continental US and several Provinces in Canada.

Have been rewarded with making new friends everywhere we have dropped anchor. We have situated ourselves of late, near family which is such a plus.  My family actually,  as Mr's family is waaaay up in Canada.  Nothing better than talking to my sister and planning a day of meeting up and having lunch and just being together.

Where we are now it's like a small family.  Occasionally we may enjoy meals together, potluck style. You never know who is gonna come by to share a meal.  Certainly all are welcome. The weather here is a bit cooler in the evenings so a warm meal around a well built fire is quite welcome.  This weekend the weather will still be on the cool side so I'm going to make my posole.  Find the recipe here.  This is a hearty soup stew kinda meal, perfect for this weather.   Someone will surely make cornbread or bring some crusty bread.

This could be a fun summer

Back to the task at hand

I'm going thru all of these CD's that contain photos from the last ten years.  What a fun and boring job.  Fun in the case where it jogs your memory of favorite people, places or things.  I'm gonna refer you to this post so as not to repeat myself.
But while browsing thru some of these CD's I came upon this photo.  It had a tag that it was taken  in Canada.  I am thinking it was when we first got on the road with our RV and ended up traveling the year and driving 27, 000 miles.  What a trip and tons of memories especially visiting with dear friends in Canada.

Just sorry I didn't save this in a larger format.

Ya never know I could find more favorites - so......................................

Oh Boy.................

I am about to enter into a huge time involved project.

You see I have a new HP laptop, new laptops do not have CD drive capability, at least mine does not. I cannot tell you how many CD"s I have.  They all have photos, memories of our trips we have taken since we have retired.

Now mind you that was only eight years ago.  We left the warm state of Florida with 5th wheel RV, truck and cat.  Oh and a brand new Canon Rebel camera.  Husband was quite accommodating when I would yell "oh could we stop here for some photos" PLEASE!!  I'm sure my dearly beloved was getting tired of pulling over.  Especially dragging a 5th wheel trailer that he has never driven before.  He was surely hoping the newness was going to wear off.

I will share some of my favorite photos here for the next oh I don't know few weeks because that is how long this project is gonna take.  Here's hoping the external hard drive I bought has enough bytes.

Now what to do with those CD's once I have transferred the photos.  Any suggestions?
Winslow,AZ is an odd little town with a ton a history.

It's been two years

I just cannot believe two years ago we left Florida in our rear view window.

I just went back and read
May 2007 of tombstone tumbleweed to refresh my quite feeble memory of our time on the road. Scroll down to May 17th post to refresh your memory.

We have seen some of the most beautiful sites of the fantastic country as well as a few sites in Canada. Talk about meeting people and making friends.....................my heavens we have met some wonderful folks and made many new friends.

Buddy, Mr Doodles and I had a chat.............I'm thinking we're gonna keep on going.

No I don't need that

Many of you know that Mr Doodles and I along with our cat Buddy live permanently in our RV. Now it's a lovely, somewhat spacious in terms of RV's.

One of the first things the Mr Doodles asked was keep the contents down OK. We have a weight issue. OK so I agreed to keep it to a minimum HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't mention the many wine bottles I had stashed in various spots. Many of which have been consumed.

So it's been a year plus a few months and I hate to say this but Mr Doodles was right, RV living is a completely different lifestyle. Casual, like why do I do that little black dress I have hanging in the closet? Where the heck am I ever gonna wear that? But yet it stays there cause I'm the type that says ya never know. Even Mr Doodles has some clothes hanging in the closet that he has never worn that I have put in the category of ya never know.

And much to my friend kimmy's chagrin I have quite a collection of Depression Glass. Not all of it in the RV but a few pieces.

We are lucky that I was able to unload a few storage boxes at sisters consisting of winter clothes mostly. So we'll buzz back by their house come fall and change out summer for winter. However that does depend on where we end up for the fall winter months. That is still up in the air with several options.

I guess that's the very best part of living in an RV........"where shall we go next"?

Stay tuna'd..............ya never know!!!

Living the compact life

I am writing this for me as much as y'all to give an insite as to RV living.

Cleaning...
lordy I found dust and dirt in the bottom of drawers and shelves that I have no idea how it got there. I know it probably came from living in plenty of gravel RV Parks around the country, but how it creeps into the RV drawers and such... I must be more diligent when docked around gravel spots. . Anyhow it took lots and lots of cleaning to get rid of the grit and now I have sparkly clean drawers and closets.

For some baby boomers, the RV life has become the new Harley Davidson – a symbol of nomadic/gypsy freedom. In a way it is gypsy like, but there is a bonus you get to meet up with old and new friends while seeing the vistas of this great country. Most of you know we crammed 18,000 miles into a about six months. And yes we will admit we did overdo by a few miles but the sites we saw were just amazing. And there is so much more for us to see. Like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, DC Zoo, Vietnam Memorial, Atlanta Aquarium all kinds a places to visit and revisit So listen to this...YIKES!!! pray for me please!!!

Mr Doodles has convinced me there is Alaska in our future. Now, just for visiting mind you, but three months. So a plan has been put in place for such a trip. I was hesitant, that's putting it mildly, for a long time, stamping my foot, hell no I won't go, way too remote for me, too far, too long - hell I could go on and on. Till finally Mr Doodles said OK then Buddy, he's the cat, and I will go. I almost said " see ya!!!" Then I thought about it. And then stepmomma relayed her experiences of Alaska and it did sound intriguing, sorta. I even offered stepmomma to take my place. But after the conversation with her I figured what the hell, OK I'll go. Be alert Mr Doodles my Christmas present to you is telling you I'm going to Alaska. Now that means we will delay buying and building anything for at least another year, but what the hell ya only live once and think of the photos I can take. Wonder how much gravel there is in Alaska. I'll let y'all know.

One of the big question that folks making the jump from "sticks and bricks" to a "life on the road" is a good, solid, important one: how to decorate for the holidays..........that is a definite stay tuna'd
