Refried Beans

Now I know they are not everyone's favorite.  But maybe it's because they opened the can and just heated them up. Don't ever do that again.

Well as luck would have it  a friends mother made us a dozen of the very best tamales I have ever eaten.  Perfectly spiced and the masa was not thick.  Damn scrumptious!!

So what do you serve with tamales.  I like refried beans but up until now I was just adding a bit of milk and green chiles to pump them up a bit.   Not anymore.  My friends mother told me to add  about a quarter cup of chicken stock, sour cream to the desired consistency.  Then add your green chiles and/or hot sauce.  Finish off with shredded cheese of your choice.  You will thank me I promise.

She did say thru the translation of her son, "sometimes I add chopped onion, or jalapeno peppers chopped or even salsa.  Depends who is sitting at my table.  This lady is an amazing women comes from a very small town outside of Guadalajara.  Speaks very  limited English but she knew when I told her how good her tamales were  because a big smile broke out.

No no photos....................we ate them ALL!!  Will order some before we leave to freeze and take with us.

Do you do this?

Denim—Wash less (or not at all)

Yes, that’s right, don’t wash your jeans. I was kind of grossed out at first but you’d be surprised how many people do this! Washing and drying jeans cuts their lifespan in half, and if you’re buying nice jeans this can really add up! The trick is to spot treat any stains and when they are starting to feel dingy you fold them up, put them in a ziploc bag and put them in the freezer for a few days. The low temperatures kill bacteria, remove any stink, and somehow, make them feel freshly clean. Try it for a couple months and see how it works for you, I’m betting you’ll love it!

Since I don't pay a lot of money for my jeans I don't see the need to do this.  But I do know people that do.

BTW I found this on a blog recently and if my computer hadn't crashed I would give her credit.

The Olympics

Have been amazing!!  That is my humble opinion of course.  I'm sure if you were a Russian fan your heart is broken.  And you are hoping the team doesn't get sent to Siberia to live.  For those readers that don't know or care I'll explain.  The head Russian, Putin is pretty pissed the Russian hockey team did not even medal.  Look out for the Russian team in the next Olympics which is in Seoul South Korea.

Now the women USA hockey team are about to play those meanie Canadian women for the gold medal.  So I'm about to cut this short and watch the USA women play.  Hopefully, fingers crossed and with their skill level and this great coach they have I will come back here and talk about the game.

The Olympics on the other hand have been terrific.  Not because USA has won so many medals but the amazing athletes that are able to do the most difficult things in cold weather while it's sleeting, foggy and rainy.

Go Team USA Women's Hockey!!!

Well I'm back to tell ya it was a disappointing  finish for the USA Mens hockey.  It wasn't that they didn't play well it that they didn't play every minute of the game.  Much like the women.  But the women were fortunate to receive a Silver Medal.

Being I am married to a Canadian I know Mr is secretly quite happy the Canadians won.  He says when a Canadian team wins he always says "lets take that Cup back to Canada where it belongs"!!!  I say pffffffffffttt.

Can't wait to talk about the Winter Olympics in Seoul South Korea.

Dust if you must..............

The poem goes on....

Dust if you must.
But there is not much time
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb!
Music to hear, and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must.
But the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes,
the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come round again.

Dust if you must.
But bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go, and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

...and is attributed to Mrs Rose Milligan from Lancaster. The poem was first published in the September 15th – 21st edition of The Lady (magazine) in 1998.

One day I'll illustrate it all! (and nicely!)

What do you think of these wise words? Agree wholeheartledly or yearn for a tidy house? ; )

Could the solution of credit card hacking be solved

by just using our index finger or an eye print?  The problem with ANY of this is the information has to be stored somewhere and that somewhere must have a keeper of the gate.  And that gate keeper must be knowledgeable in keeping out the bad guys read  teenage boys in Russia.

Sorry Russia I do not mean to cause ill will but you are housing and keeping under wraps a fellow who hacked his way into a lot of trouble.

Just heard on the NPR leave your computer at home and don't use your phone for anything important like banking etc.  Guess the hackers are out in full force.  Sure sounds to me like the hackers that are working overtime.  Terrorists without guns.

BTW I am not to fond of Microsoft right now.  On my way to Best Buy to have Windows eight removed because of all the bugs and replaced with Windows 8.1.  Hoping the guy that invented Windows 8 has gotten 40 lashes.  Boy are a lot of people PISSED!!

Words of wisdom.................

I do not have the temperament to be idle......
doing nothing makes me itch!!

Well that and the fact that we haven't had a drop of rain here in Southern Arizona.  Shea butter is my new best friend.  And it seems I'm using more this year than ever before.  Wonder if it's my old skin.  Now I'm not complaining because Southern Arizona is on an aquifer.  There is  water underground everywhere in this area.  That makes good growing for this lettuce belt.  Sunkist and Dole have unbelievable fields of vegetables. They call this area the lettuce bowl.   I wrote about it here.  So many find it hard to believe in this dry dusty desert this area would be second to Imperial Valley in California for growing.    If you are ever in this area stop by and spend sometime.  Not a cosmopolitan city by any means but during the winter months there is a ton of happenings.
